From Madrid to Morrow

Hello! Or should I say, HOLA!

What do you think of when you think of Spain?

Dali? Running with the bulls? Fashionable mullets? Margaret Hagan?

I bet you also think about Paella, a dish native to Spain composed of white rice, green vegetables, meat or seafood, and sometimes beans, depending on the region. Trivia tidbit: In the minds of Spaniards, Paella is not the national dish of Spain. They view it as a regional dish, authentic to the Valencian region of Spain, where it is considered an identity symbol. Thank you, Wikipedia.

Tonight in Morrow we were teleported to the beautiful European nation, with a delicious array of red onion and tomato bruschetta (visiting from Italy), mixed Paella with chicken, shrimp, Andouille sausage, and real mussels, and tofu with eggplant sauce and spinach. And chocolate chip ice cream, straight off the boat.

I was delighted by the assortment, and even though some complained about its lack of authenticity, I would like to see another college dining hall try to recreate such a magical dish on a random Monday night and actually pull it off like Morrow did. And universities in Spain don't count.

In any case, I had a delightful meal of Paella and bruschetta. Joanna and I drizzled some lemon juice on it, making it extra delicious. Sally chatted with me about the s Andouille sausage specially purchased for this occasion, and she was right: it was surprisingly spicy and ultra tasty. Nomz. Nomnomonommmm.

I ended my meal with a warm cup of cider, a slice of pound cake with chocolate chip ice cream on top and drizzled with chocolate sauce. If you have kept up with this blog, you will see that I've enjoyed this dessert before...it's my new favorite.

Now, for all of you who didn't show up to the Morrow Spanish Fiesta, I want to ask you: what could be so important that you would miss such a great night?

Class? Psh. Meetings? Nah. Practice? No wayz. Pot Roast and mashed potatoes?

HELL FUCKING NO.

Maybe it's the non-existent but really should be there Spanish part of me talking, but choosing a meal I could have any day of the week over this paella-fantastica seems crazy.

Therefore, Morrow Dining hall was a little less crowded than normal. It was a sad time.

Jen Krain, I expected more out of you. Like, to actually make an appearance!

Overall--

Food: Nomz. I thought it was great.
Missed: Everyone. Especially--Samara, Jen, Rannah V. Hastmore, Julie, Nev, and many more. Oh, and Beth McGann. Where the hell is she?
Spotted: Claire S. She wanted a shout-out. And Kati Sherrill dressed as Mary Kate. Hilar.

Adios y Nomz, lovely readers.

(I sincerely apologize for my butchering of the Spanish language and Spanish culture in this posting. I really have a great appreciation and love of Spain, and I do not mean to offend. I guess I should start to learn Spanish...)
